just another weekend

Hello Monday morning!

It was a productive weekend. By that I mean, I was able to finish 4 weeks worth of laundry including 3 bedsheets. I bought new curtains.

I bought two new cacti and a potted giant rose plant.

I didn't do my tryinghardchef stint this time, except for the mandatory buttered shrimp for the little girl. But I did buy a tom yum soup pack for next weekend's shrimp. For a change. 😊 I also bought Yummy, a recipe magazine so I'm sure to try out new food this week. I am excited about that.

Kids and I attended The Feast Valenzuela again yesterday (2nd time this month). So heartwarming. Kids think we should attend it every week. Which makes me really glad that they like worship.

We haven't gone to taekwondo training for 3 weeks. It feels sad not to be able to go and letting my kids' "athleticity" go to naught. But last night Mommy O called and said the coach wants the little big man in the national tournament on the 26th. That's two weeks away so we gotta work up our schedule to be able to train.

So I'm off to a brand new week. Wish me luck. Good vibes only. God's will, God's time.

An Abraham Lincoln quote

This is just to start off my Friday morning. Looking forward to the weekend.

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak  by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

random = perfect

i love how random last weekend was for my little family.  what we planned out to do, we didn't follow and ended up having a better time than we expected.

first, after the altar boys seminar (yes, the little big man is attending) we went to check out voice lessons for the little girl which we found not worthy of her time.  so we set out to go to that swimming classes my mom was talking about the other week.  on our way there, we found a EENT doctor, which we have been trying to find for the longest time who can cure the little big man's allergic rhinitis.  but we didn't check in with him yet and instead still headed for the swimming school.  which the little girl liked and we said we'd come back.

had an unusual lunch out at Ogo's Lugawan.  this was in the vicinity of the swimming school and decided on the spur of the moment.  it turned out to be a gastronomic treat.  definitely coming back.

at the EENT, we were explained that the rhinitis is something that the little big man will be carrying for the rest of his life and that all we can do is maintain that it doesn't hinder him from his daily activities.

when we got home, my dad invited us to go visit the fish farm in paombong.  we had taekwondo training that afternoon but decided not to go and instead enjoy an afternoon in the provincial site.  after all, it wasn't often that the kids get to go to such places.  so off we went.  we had kamayan dinner inside a small nipa hut built right beside the fish farm.  the little girl fell in the pond coz she slipped from the coconut tree bark which served as bridge from the pilapil to the nipa hut.  i was at first alarmed but when i found her okay, we laughed together coz she had to stay in the car the rest of the evening without pants or undies which got all wet when she fell.

the pilapil.  we walked all around it!

sunday morning was taekwondo training again which we skipped so we can laze around the house, the kids and hubby watched a chinese film while i read twitter feeds about willie revillame.

after lunch, the long awaited chance to visit the coop came.  my parents accompanied us and finally, we had opened an account each for me and hubby.  heard mass at 5pm and bonded with my mom while grocery shopping still with hubby and kids.

i know all this may seem senseless to anyone reading this.  but to me, it was one of the best weekends of this year so far.  despite all my problems at work these days, this weekend came in to let me feel that i got this nice simple family to go home to.  EVERYDAY.  and at the end of the day, what matters most is them.  nothing else.

what we did on the 3-day weekend

and so, the last 3-day weekend before christmas has come and gone.  but the kids can't seem to get enough outings.  they're still rarin' to go wherever.  so we're planning more trips this december, a beach trip even, with the grandparents.

last saturday, we attended a family reunion with the hubby's relatives.  it wasn't very eventful but the big deal about it was that the kids met some of their cousins in that part of the family tree.  the little big man even found out he has cousins into taekwondo too and they had a blast performing a routine and some kicks as part of the talent portion of the program.

sunday was another taekwondo tournament in malolos, bulacan.  the little big man got a bronze.  he won 2 games then lost his third.  it was a little disappointing because he knew and we knew he didn't give it his best.  but then again, it's all part of the scheme of things, i guess.  but there's another story to this day worthy of another blog entry.

yesterday, we accompanied my mom and dad to my uncle's house (errr, mansion) in paombong, bulacan.  afterwhich had lunch at this small resto called yee fu.  then they bought stuff at sm marilao, being the mall closest to where we were.  then mom got some linoleum at that shop in karuhatan.  then more buying at that sort-of-like-divisoria place near our place.

was generally a fun weekend.  tired but happy.

The problem with weekends

Monday to Friday, I stay in the office 9 hours per day and every single day of that, I long for the weekend. Once I get home Friday night, I am in heaven. I forget all my work problems, my rifts with my boss, my follow ups with suppliers…. I turn into happy-go-lucky mommy and wifee.

Eversince we moved to our new home, our weekends are usually spent together – the 3 of us, Migo, Cesar and me. We would do household chores, eat out for breakfast, watch tv, go shopping/palengke, swimming, just plain have fun. My parents would often visit us Sunday night.

The problem with weekends though is that by Monday morning, I find it hard to shift back from mommy/wifee mode to work mode. It takes a while before I respond to the ding-dong-ing of my cellphone's alarm and get up to take my morning shower. Usually, the shower perks me up a bit but when Migo wakes up and starts whining for "Mommeeeee...dito ka tabi ko..." I get lazy again. When I am finally able to dress up, I'd have to drag myself down the 5 floors (15 steps per floor) of our condo building. The cold or heat of the morning affects me as well. If it's hot, I'm cranky. If it's cold, I'm super sleepy. And the almost 1 hour ride to work is just awful. Add the traffic and I am really gone.

The worse part is when I get to the office and I'm already dead tired.

Geez... can't wait till Friday.
